Safety is the state of being "safe" (from French sauf), the condition of being protected against physical, social, spiritual, financial, political, emotional, occupational, psychological, educational or other types or consequences of failure, damage, error, accidents, harm or any other event which could be considered non-desirable. This can take the form of being protected from the event or from exposure to something that causes health or economical losses. It can include protection of people or of possessions. MeaningsThere also are two slightly different meanings of safety. For example, home safety may indicate a building's ability to protect against external harm events (such as weather, home invasion, etc), or may indicate that its internal installations (such as appliances, stairs, etc) are safe (not dangerous or harmful) for its habitants. LimitationsSafety can be limited in relation to some guarantee or a standard of insurance to the quality and unharmful function of an object or organization. It is used in order to ensure that the object or organization will do only what it is meant to do. It's important to realize that safety is relative. Eliminating all risk, if even possible, would be extremely difficult and very expensive. A safe situation is one where risks of injury or property damage are low and manageable. Types of safetyIt is important to distinguish between products that meet standards, that are safe, and those that merely feel safe. The highway safety community uses these terms: Normative safetyNormative safety is a term used to describe products or designs that meet applicable design standards. Substantive safetySubstantive, or objective safety means that the real-world safety history is favorable, whether or not standards are met. From Wikipedia under the

Answered by GWR309 - Thu Feb 26 18:19:34 2009 What are the safety, comfort and efficency developments/history in cars over the years? Q. I have tried to find infomation on the internet and am struggling. I am doing an assignment on the history of the automobile and paritcular emphasis is to be placed on these three subjects- safety, comfort and efficiency. Asked by Embem - Tue May 6 04:49:18 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would suggest that you go to an automobile museum in your area and ask some questions. I would also suggest that you attend a few "classic" car shows which I'm sure are held most weekends somewhere in your area. Look at these cars. Look at the interior. Look under the hood. Ask questions about what's different now. Those owners love to talk about their cars. They have usually spent hundreds of hours working on them. I suppose you could also look up some car manufacturing history websites on a search engine. Have fun and learn. Safety...ohhh, so many things from where the key is placed (and how to start this machine) to the placement of levers, etc. within the driver's cabin. Q. I have a Marlin 336 CS in .35 Remington caliber I intend to sell and was told by a supposedly knowledgable gun dealer it has to be at least a 1985 model or newer since that was when Marlin began using that type safety. I am certain I bought this gun WELL before 1980. Can anyone tell me when the cross bolt safety was introduced on these guns?
