Mothers (formerly the Carlton Ballroom) was a club in Birmingham, England during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Mothers opened above an old furniture store in Erdington High Street on August 9, 1968. The club, run by John 'Spud' Taylor and promoter Phil Myatt, closed its doors on 3 January 1971. Between these times, more than 400 acts performed there, many of whom went on to greater success.

Possibly the most significant of the live recordings that took place in Mothers was Pink Floyd's Ummagumma, a double-album on EMI's new label Harvest. It was released in October and featured two live sides, part recorded at Mothers on April 27, 1969 and part at Manchester College of Commerce in June 1969.

The Who performed Tommy and Traffic's world debut took place at Mothers along with fledgling rock bands like Black Sabbath playing some of their earliest gigs there.

Some of the better known rock bands to play Mothers include: Family, Fleetwood Mac, Eclection, Edgar Broughton Band, Traffic, Free, Roy Harper, Blodwyn Pig, Strawbs, Quintessence, Steppenwolf, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Deviants, Jethro Tull, Jon Hiseman's Colosseum, Skid Row (with Gary Moore), The Nice, Tyrannosaurus Rex, The Who, Fairport Convention, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Soft Machine, The Chicago Transit Authority, Moby Grape, Canned Heat (there is a reference to the club in the sleeve notes of their 1969 compilation Canned Heat Cookbook) and the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.

Mothers was voted number one rock venue in the world by America's Billboard magazine and John Peel, a regular DJ at the club, was quoted as saying: "People are amazed to hear that for a few years the best club in Britain was in Erdington."

Roy Harper later told Brum Beat magazine:

That was the first club outside London that meant anything at all and that's why there's been this long association [of Harper] with Birmingham. I played there about six times between 1968 and 1970. I have always enjoyed playing here.

How many mothers are satisfied if the father does this?
Q. How many mothers are satisfied if the father buys clothing and toys for his daughter in and a meal if whenever she is with daddy? She can be with her daddy any time the mother needs him to care for her when he is not at work. If the mother offers 50/50 custody he will take it. If the mother is not able to care for her, than she can live with her daddy. The mother would do that if she divorces her husband, or if she never married her father. She would be very comparative in co-parenting with her father.

A. I think as long as the father is willing and cooperative to share in the care and expences of the child then no formal child support agreement is needed. But it needs to be more than just clothes and toys, I mean unless kid is a baby, clothes are not needed that often, neither are toys. My kids get toys at b-day and x-mas and that`s about it, I hardly buy them any toys and yet they have tons! The bigger expences with kids are daycare, medical, dental, school tuition (if its a private school), and extra-curricular activities like sports, piano lessons ect.

Do you think mothers who formula feed their babies without a medical reason should be overseen by CPS?
Q. The way I see it is, in this day and age we know the risks of formula feeding (yes, they are real risks), they are well publicised and help is out there to breasfeed. If a mother is not prepared to give her child the best start to life with something as simple as breastfeeding, shouldn't we be worried about what else she may do to her children? Please note I stated mothers who are fully able to breastfeed.

A. Maybe not CPS, but I DO believe that mothers who are going to formula-feed should have to have a prescription from the doctor.
