Safety is the state of being "safe" (from French sauf), the condition of being protected against physical, social, spiritual, financial, political, emotional, occupational, psychological, educational or other types or consequences of failure, damage, error, accidents, harm or any other event which could be considered non-desirable. This can take the form of being protected from the event or from exposure to something that causes health or economical losses. It can include protection of people or of possessions. MeaningsThere also are two slightly different meanings of safety. For example, home safety may indicate a building's ability to protect against external harm events (such as weather, home invasion, etc), or may indicate that its internal installations (such as appliances, stairs, etc) are safe (not dangerous or harmful) for its inhabitants. LimitationsSafety can be limited in relation to some guarantee or a standard of insurance to the quality and unharmful function of an object or organization. It is used in order to ensure that the object or organization will do only what it is meant to do. It is important to realize that safety is relative. Eliminating all risk, if even possible, would be extremely difficult and very expensive. A safe situation is one where risks of injury or property damage are low and manageable. Types of safetyIt is important to distinguish between products that meet standards, that are safe, and those that merely feel safe. The highway safety community uses these terms: Normative safetyNormative safety is a term used to describe products or designs that meet applicable design standards. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What are the safety hazards of an electrical outlet without a coverplate? Q. I've accidentally broken the cover plate off an electrical outlet, I was just wondering what the safety hazards are of not having a cover plate? Does the cover plate prevent anything from moving (creating sparks, fires, electrical shock)? I am planning on replacing the coverplate, thanks, just don't feel like going out at 1 am to get a new one. I just want to make sure there is no threat until then, or risk when I do replace it. Asked by bunnymustdie - Sat Feb 21 01:17:45 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. replace as soon as you can. the cover does protect you and other from poking objects around the outlet itself. when looking directly at the outlet the 2 screws on the right side that will be recessed from the walls surface (on the actual sid eof the outlet) can cause an electrical shock. these are relatively the only part of the outlet now exposed that can cause any harm. if you have any children around this missing plate may propose an opportunity for curiosity and anything metal against either of those screws will cause sparks and ultimately can cause electricution. id put tape or cardboard with tape up until you can pick up a new plate (which is $0.50). i dont blame you for not wanting to try and find or steal a plug plate at 1 am,… [cont.] Answered by zac - Sat Feb 21 01:47:52 2009 How to solve the safety problems of the people who go abroad? Keep up to date knowledge on what countries are safe to visit (visit goverment websites, read magazines, watch tv, etc). Get travel insurance. If all else fails these people can stay home. Q. I am Sheppard from Texas, daily I came across a lot of news about road accidents and deaths. Why the accidents are taking place, is it because of careless driving or what. I want to get educated about safety driving tips and road rules in Texas. Can any one suggest me the best online resource where I can get complete info? Asked by Sheppard T - Tue Jul 1 04:17:39 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Statistic: about 80% of all accidents happen within 3 sec of a driver distraction (ie-talking of the cell phone, playing with iPod, car full of friends.) Go to a Texes Department of Motor Vehicle office and pic up a driver handbook and read it (if you haven't already.)
