Childbirth (also called labour, birth, partus or parturition) is the culmination of a human pregnancy or gestation period with birth of one or more newborn infants from a woman's uterus. The process of normal human childbirth is categorized in three stages of labour: the shortening and dilation of the cervix, descent and birth of the infant, and birth of the placenta.. In some cases, childbirth is achieved through caesarean section, the removal of the neonate through a surgical incision in the abdomen, rather than through vaginal birth.

Is Natural Childbirth really as bad as some women make it sound?
Q. I am 28 weeks pregnant with my first baby (boy) and planning to have a natural childbirth in my local hospital. How bad does child birth really hurt? Is labor worse than child birth? Is it worse than breaking a bone in your body? Just some questions i'd like answered so i know what im getting myself into. Thanks.

A. I have had two children, both by natural childbirth. It is painful, but not unbearable. I have never broken a bone, so I can't really compare that. I thought that the pushing was more painful than the contractions, but the pushing didn't last very long for me. I personally didn't think it was as bad as some people make it sound. Just try to relax about it. I think that having a positive attitude is the best thing you can do. If you expect the worst, then that's what you'll get. Good luck.

What happens to your vagina after childbirth?
Q. Does your vagina go back to normal after natural childbirth. Does the doctor stich you back up? Can he make you tighter if you ask him too?
Asked by confused - Sat May 2 23:55:32 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The vagina will go back to the original size after child birth. You can't make a vagina tighter. A vagina is like a penis inside out. The vagina will swell and become tight when you are aroused, because lots of blood will flow to that area. A lot of people are not aware of that. *edit* Sometimes the external skin might tear a little, but the vagina itself will not be effected.

How long is a womans period after childbirth?
Q. I heard the period after a woman gives childbirth lasts for weeks. Is that true?
Asked by krissahknee - Fri Jun 16 22:31:53 2006 - - 20 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The vaginal discharge after delivery can last 4-6 weeks. The first week or so is like a heavy period, but gets less in amount and darker in color as time goes on. Any time after the discharge stops completely, you can start your period again. If you're breastfeeding full time, you may not have a period for several weeks or more - BUT remember, you can get pregnant BEFORE you have that first period, so plan what you want to do about birth control, and use it. You want time to enjoy this baby, and your body needs time to heal before you get pregnant again.
